Ballad and Blume

These three images are collaborations I did with other people for our first zine!

Ok so let’s start with how we just made a zine?  MJ, Hale and I talked about it briefly and then one day MJ came to use with her plan for a zine revolving around the nations of Teyvat.  At first, I will say I was not sure how well this was going to go, but I was excited anyways.  “Even if it is just us three, we can make this fun.” Is what I was thinking at the time. The zine turned out to be a higher success than anyone anticipated! We were slightly overwhelmed for a moment but we were happy to see other people want to join us as well.   It was really fun and as for me I think it pushed to participate more in the Genshin fandom.  I learned a lot about it during this time as well as participated in other zines.  It had gotten to a point that I designed a little portfolio.  It is VERY basic, but it gets the job I suppose, that is all it needs to do.

I started this project with plans in mind but we had a collaboration channel open and my plans kind of disappeared.  Not that I think it’s bad, funny more than anything.

Jean x Lisa

This was a collaboration with Hale.  I really enjoy this ship and they were kind enough to supply a fic for it.  I had so many sketches, but I became enamored with the idea of regency style Lisa and Jean.  I think now I would have done this differently, but I enjoy this for what it is.  This was when I really started playing around with “oil” painting brushes.  I removed line work and started to just “paint” My contrast is not there but hey, I liked how soft they are.  THE BACKGROUND.  There was suppose to be a garden in the back, but I realized my practice with foliage was very weak.  I was not able to execute the vision so then I settled with Mondstadt in the background. Kaeya and Klee and Diona

This was the first painting I finished.  This is when I first realized my ideas are much bigger than my skills.  Scarlet had posted their premise in the collab channel and my head kept spinning with pictures of their fic that I started sketching scenes and asked if they would allow me to collab with them.  They said yes and I settled on what you see here.  I had such a hard time rendering clothes, rendering a freaking chair and somehow walls are very difficult for me.  This was a challenge of many thing, but I like how I was able to push through and make something.  Diona gave me THE. HARDEST. TIME I don’t know why, maybe it was the proportions or her hair, or something.  I worked on her for far far too long, I think she was what took me the longest out of everything.

Dahlia

Out of all three, this is my favorite.  It is also the one I actually took to get help with.  I have a friend who works as a freelance illustrator and I feel bad asking but my partner pushed me to and so he helped me with the pose.  The initial idea was much flatter and less dynamic, but I will say the statue was all me and I am very happy about that.  The hardest part for this was lighting.  This was when I began to realize value is a thing that exists and how important it is to a piece.  I painted this so many times, the colors looked good initially but as a I built it up it was either too dull, too yellow, not distinct enough, too brown, etc etc.   Eventually it all came together.  link to the poem
