A Peaceful Life
Alhaitham is my favorite character, in case you were not aware. I adore his approach to life and his curiosity about the world. Much to my dismay many people do not see that for him. So for this piece I wanted to give him that peace of life that he has worked hard to achieve.
Of course I had to add Kaveh because there is not one without the other, I do see this romantically but ou can see it platonically but it still remains true in either case. The initial idea was to have the sofa facing the viewer, but after thinking of how often I have done in the past I decided to change it by shifting the perspective of the sketch. It turned out pretty well I think. The blanket would obscur the figure of alhaitham so I left it out more like, he slept without meaning too. That moment you are so comfortable you drift off. Then I thought what would have made him so tired? Perhaps he had just finished entertaining guests. Then kaveh seeing him asleep would take that moment to admire and initiate a moment of intimacy.
I know that Alhaitham is based on Iranian culture I added a "happy birthday" in that language, at least I hope if google did not fail me. This piece garnered a lot more attention than I imagined, it was quite scary really. I am very proud of this, I was not sure I was going to get it done, or that I was even going to make anything for this birthday. I am glad I did, he does deserve a good life as do most.
As always I can see my mistakes, such as not pushing the shadows as much as I had wanted, but we learn.
